First Passenger Journey in Hybrid trains
After months of testing and training of staff, Chiltern Railways will begin operating passenger journeys using the battery-diesel HybridFlex train the week of 7th February.
Each carriage of the train is powered by a battery which has enough charge to allow the diesel engine to be turned off as the train comes into the station and when it leaves. The train is quieter and less polluting. Over the next few months, if the piloting of this train is successful, it hoped that the Chiltern fleet can be modernised and decarbonised.
Flight Path
The Government has embarked on its airspace modernisation strategy which is being sponsored by the Civil Aviation Authority (CCA) and the Department for Transport.
Westminster City Council have recently written to the CAA regarding Heathrow’s Airspace Change proposal developments and flight paths over Westminster. The Council believes that every effort should be made to respond to the ongoing climate emergency to reduce emissions across the capital.
The air traffic at Heathrow leads to air pollution, significant carbon emissions, and noise pollution, affecting individuals’ health, productivity, and air quality.
We must hold the airport authorities to account and residents should make their views known here.
Opening of Elizabeth Line
The Elizabeth Line is expected to open to passengers sometime between March and June 2022. Paddington to Liverpool Street makes up the central London portion of the Elizabeth Line and is one of three sections.
Nine of Crossrail’s 10 Central London stations are completed with Bond Street the only remaining station where work is continuing. The journey between Paddington to Liverpool Street takes 12 minutes.
