Wigmore Street Crossing Improvement
Cllr Karen Scarborough did a walkabout with officers from the Council together with Conway to look at progress on the improvement to crossings in Wigmore Street.
Works scheduled for the next week include, the following junctions with Wigmore Street, Wimpole Street, Welbeck, Mandeville Place/James Street/ Marylebone Lane, Duke Street.
Wimpole Street junction.
We are also seeking improvement to the crossing at Thayer Street junction with the High Street.
Oxford Street
The Leader, Deputy Leader together with your Councillors to ensure our residents views are heard have initially supported the Mayor's proposal to consult on the proposed pedestrianisation of Oxford Street from Orchard Street to Oxford Circus but ONLY on the basis that a number of safeguards are incorporated into the plans. These safeguards are "Our Eight Pledges" to our residents and businesses. This leaflet has been delivered to residents and businesses.
Our eight pledges are:
- We will ensure pollution levels will reduce across the district.
- We will ensure traffic won’t rat run down narrow residential roads.
- We will ensure that pedestrianised areas and surrounding streets will be effectively managed at all times
- We will make sure that Oxford Street must remain accessible to all
- We will ensure deliveries will be properly controlled and not cause greater local inconvenience
- We will make sure that night time traffic should not unduly increase disturbance
- We will ensure there will be adequate, safe and quiet cycle routes through the area
- We will ensure resident parking bays will be protected
Baker Street Two Way update
Works will start on the Marylebone Road central islands. The lanes near the central islands will be closed both eastbound and westbound. Traffic will be allowed to use the remaining two lanes (including the bus lane, that has now been removed in both directions from Baker Street to Upper Montagu Street). The right turn facility from Marylebone Road and Balcombe Street will be closed while we undertake works on the central islands. There will be a diversion route marked through Baker Street - York Street - Gloucester Place - Dorset Square.
On 19th February the team were on site commissioning the temporary traffic lights on Marylebone Road at both Gloucester Place and Baker Street junctions.
Works at Park Road and Baker Street / Crawford Street and Portman Square will continue with the current lane closures and parking suspensions.
Portman Square
Works on the junctions of Seymour Street and Wigmore Street are starting this week. Our team will start with the north-west corner of each junction (outside The Hyatt Hotel for the Seymour junction and Portman Square Gardens for the Wigmore Street junction). Please note Seymour Street will be closed westbound while we remove the central island that currently holds the traffic lights (a temporary diversion through Gloucester Place / Upper Berkeley Street will be in place).
The taxi rank on the south-west corner of Portman Square will be relocated to the existing pay and display bays, that will be suspended for a month starting on Monday 12th February.
Moxon Street Development
At the Stakeholder meeting in January, the following was announced by Ridgeford.
The upcoming utility diversion works that will take place from March to June:
- Works to the south side of St Vincent Street, by BT and UKPN, are targeted to take place during the school Easter holidays, to limit disruption to the School.
- BT and UKPN works on Cramer Street, Aybrook Street and the north side of Moxon Street are targeted to take place after Easter, to be completed by the end of June.
- The target date to start piling on site - July 2018 - is dependent on a number of variables which could delay the programme. These variables include the service diversions, securing vacant possession of the car park, and the appointment of the main contractor.
The next Stakeholder meeting will take place on Thursday 8th March at Aubaine Marylebone, 7 Moxon Street, London W1U 4EP.
