Street updates

Oxford Street Transformation

Your Councillors lobbied successfully for the extension to the Consultation and we are now awaiting the feedback. We want to assure residents that should the Pedestrianisation of Oxford Street go ahead that we will do everything we can to ensure that all residents and our concerns are mitigated and addressed.

Great Portland Street

We have now had the railings removed

Paddington Street Gardens

We would like to thank the Mayor of Westminster (see photo bottom right) for switching on the lights in Paddington Street Gardens before Christmas, together with the beautifully sung carols by St Vincent's Primary School. The tree was kindly sponsored by Ridgeford and goody bags for the children, mulled wine and mince pies for everyone else were donated by Druce &Co. A collection was made for St Mungos

Wigmore Street

We are pleased to say that following pressure from Westminster City Council, Transport for London has agreed to carry out a number of long awaited safety improvements in the area. These include pedestrian crossings and pavement enhancements along Wigmore Street and work is set to begin in early 2018. These works will be carried out irrespective of any Oxford Street Transformation proposals. Survey measures have now been conducted to facilitate the works.

The planned works in Wigmore Street include the following:

  • Improvements to pedestrian facilities in the area to make it easier and safer to walk through the district
  • Upgrades to pedestrian crossings along Wigmore Street including the introduction of pedestrian countdown on the junctions
  • Provision of advanced stop lines for cyclists at key junctions
  • Some footways will be widened in the area (where possible)

Baker Street

All works to the Two Way project were stopped on the 16th January whilst Emergency repairs works were undertaken at Marylebone Road / Baker Street junction by Cadent Gas to locate and repair a gas leak below the carriageway. These works unfortunately caused severe delays in the area.

Devonshire Place Mews - Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN)

As part of the LEN, we now have installed a "No Right Turn"sign underneath the arch of the Orrery Restaurant and two warning notices in Devonshire Street. We will continue to monitor this scheme. to improve air quality in a residential street.

Portland Place

Following complaints from some residents and parents/carers about the difficulty in dropping off/collecting children from schools in Portland Place,(due to parking suspensions relating to the development in Park Crescent), your Councillors have successfully negotiated some leeway in parking locations and times, together with a notice being placed in car windscreens advising Wardens as to why the cars are parked there.

City West Homes

We have had meetings with City West Homes to take up issues on behalf of residents in Luxborough Tower and Holcroft Court. CWH will be having monthly meetings on site with residents, communication has been stepped up and the Call Centre upgraded with more staff to answer calls quickly.
