Planning permission has been granted for the South-Western Project at Lord’s to replace the Tavern and Allen stands, the Thomas Lord building and build a new Lord's Tavern pub.
The application made by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) was contentious, with multiple objections received, including from local residents associations such as Century and Blazers Courts.

Regent’s Park Ward Councillors were concerned about the impact this development would have on local residents. Councillor Gotz Mohindra spoke at the planning meeting. He told the committee: “Local residents have expressed their concerns about the hours of use of the Harris Gardens for drinking as well as the days of use of the proposed retractable seating. Lord's is in a residential area and a careful balance must be struck between local families and individuals living in the area and the needs of the MCC.”

The licensing committee agreed with Regent’s Park ward councillors’ calls for alcohol not to be served on the Harris Gardens after 8pm and for a limit on the number of days the retractable seating may be used (the exact number to be agreed upon at a future date).

One local resident said: “My sincere appreciation and thanks for your representation tonight on our behalf, which clearly helped the outcome. The committee were very fair in their deliberations and clearly understood our concerns. I am delighted on the 8pm condition stopping alcohol being served on the gardens which was one of our major concerns.”
