Manchester Square

Following a recent consultation, the Council has signed off a Report to pedestrianise the northern part of Manchester Square.

This part of the Oxford Street District improvements will provide a more connected cycling route and a green space for all to enjoy which we are desperately short of in Marylebone.

The project is supported by the Portman Estate, the Baker Street Quarter and the Wallace Collection and is now going to the design stage.

BBC London: Westminster Council calls on the Mayor to support Soho businesses

Tuesday, 11 August, 2026
Cllr Tim Barnes explains that just two Westminster wards, West End and St James's, account for 26% of all "small crime" across the whole of London, which he says is exactly why some regulation of venues is necessary. He again pointed to the Mayor's record on transport as the bigger barrier to a good night out, saying Sadiq Khan "keeps cutting the night buses and won't bring in a late-night tube service on Thursdays."
