A message from Councillor Lindsey Hall, your Conservative candidate for Westminster North
Your three Conservative councillors represent you on Westminster City Council: a Conservative-run council which delivers low taxes, clean streets and high quality services. But you currently don’t have a Conservative voice in Parliament.
On June 8, I am standing to become that voice, working with Theresa May to deliver the best possible Brexit deal for Westminster North and the whole country. There is no point in your political representation standing on the sidelines. I promise to be your strong and influential voice in Parliament, working with Government, representing the best interests of the people and businesses of Westminster North.
I have served on Westminster City Council for over a decade, raised my family here, started my business here and lived all my adult life here. I can think of no greater honour than serving our community at this important time. 11 days after the General Election, the EU will start Brexit negotiations with Britain. Only the Conservatives have a plan for Brexit and the ability to deliver the best deal.
This is a tight race, especially here in Westminster North, and every vote is going to count. Just the loss of 6 seats will see the Conservatives lose their majority and will usher in a coalition of chaos led by Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister. I don’t believe that this what the residents of Westminster North want. Make sure you have your say in this crucial election.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know my views on any issue or if I can help in any way. If you would like to get in touch with me, please contact [email protected]
Hanging baskets continue to add cheer
Your local Conservative Councillors have confirmed their continued support for the additional hanging baskets that were installed in recent years and funded directly from the ward member budget. We know that local residents and visitors to Little Venice value the appearance of our streets, and this is enhanced through the continued provision of hanging baskets throughout the year.
New sports facilities proposed at Paddington Green School
Improving sporting facilities for adults and children in the ward is a key priority for your Conservative Little Venice Councillors. A new multi use games area and sports pitch is being proposed at Paddington Green School.
This will be available for use by the local community outside of school hours. A planning application will be submitted in the next few weeks and the new facility is planned to be in place by the autumn.
Cllr Melvyn Caplan commented that providing such resources for our local residents is something that we will continue to promote and seek to deliver for the community.
Drains fixed near City of Westminster College
We regularly hear about pools of water being left after a major rain shower. One of the most persistent ‘ponding problems’ was fixed earlier this year with the new section of pavement and road realignment on Sutherland Avenue. Another problem area has been at Paddington Green in front of City of Westminster College. Your local Conservative councillors have been working hard to get the problem fixed and can report that the offending drain/gulley has been repaired and the matter resolved.
Cllr Melvyn Caplan said your local Conservative Councillors are always interested to hear from residents if they have problems with the roads, drains or pavements in Little Venice.
A new Lord Mayor
Councillor Ian Adams is this year’s Lord Mayor, working across all of the community of Westminster rather than on ward issues in Little Venice.
Canalway Cavalcade
Over the first May bank holiday weekend Little Venice Ward was very proud to host another year of Canalway Cavalcade organised by Inland Waterways. On the run up to the event your Councillors were keen to keep an eye on detail and improve the amount of free space available on the site designated for the food court.
The trees were given a substantial prune so that the stalls were set back along the wall of Stone Wharf. It was a pleasure to see many picnickers enjoying the resulting widened area. Stone Wharf is the area between Rembrandt Gardens and the overhead Harrow Road Bridge.
Your neighbourhood watch Police Constable, Paul Reading, made his presence known. Councillor Barbara Arzymanow says, “Little Venice has a rich historical heritage which we are determined to preserve and develop.”
