Railings Meeting

In and around Warwick Avenue Station railings

Over the past year your Conservative councillors continued to improve the area around our tube station. We will again enter the London-wide “Tubs in Bloom” competition run by London Underground but this year we have made further improvements. Following a successful meeting at which the Conservatives were represented by our London Assembly member (Tony Devenish) and our Councillor Barbara Arzymanow, Transport for London kindly agreed to paint the railings before the tubs were prepared for the recent judging. We eagerly await the competition results expected in October. The plants around the exit to the tube station have been provided by local sponsors and looked after by volunteers.

We continue to press for the removal of surplus newspapers around the Station, particularly the Evening Standard. The area is cleaned twice a day.

In addition to the Micro Recycling Centre at Warwick Avenue tube, there is also a mobile centre every Saturday between 10-3 where residents can receive advice about recycling. Further details can be seen here.

Your Councillors continue to monitor road and pedestrian safety and are keen to receive reports of concerns so that they can act rapidly. For example, we achieved a rapid response to a fallen tree in Castellain Road.

Cllr Arzymanow says ‘Warwick Avenue tube station is at the centre of the ward and used by hundreds of people every day. We continue to work to preserve and improve this area’.

Planning Applications

We receive many requests for help in relation to planning matters in the area.  We reported on this in our last newsletter and received many responses.  Your Conservative councillors are here to help preserve our special area and are always available to assist in getting the right balance from any planning applications.  If you have concerns about a planning application in your street or your block, please get in touch.

Cllr Caplan commented ‘Planning matters continue to dominate our postbag and we continue to work on behalf of our community to preserve and protect our heritage’.

Ward Budget

Your councillors have a ward budget allocated for use on small projects in the area. The money given for a project can be a few hundred pounds or several thousand pounds and is designed to support projects that make a difference to Little Venice ward.

In recent years, we have funded the planting of additional hanging baskets across the ward, supported an annual old people’s Christmas Dinner, provided the tree lights in Clifton Road, paid for the provision of a second recycling collection across the ward. We also funded a police car for the neighbourhood team and a speed gun for their use. Run by PC Paul Reading, the Little Venice boxing club which meets weekly has also been funded for many years and has seen hundreds of young people from ages 4 to 24 both male and female take part.  If you have any ideas or schemes that you think we should consider, please let us know using the contact details provided.

Cllr Caplan noted ‘We have made a difference to our area with the funding of these projects and are always looking for new schemes that we can support’.
