Listening to local people on Grosvenor Estate about crime and anti-social behaviour

Nickie Aiken, Member of Parliament for the Cities of London & Westminster, is determined to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in our neighbourhoods. She joined local councillors David Harvey and Selina Short to hear directly from local people on the Grosvenor Estate.

Sadly, Nickie has heard too often from local people and experienced herself instances of people being anti-social or taking or dealing drugs on our streets. That’s why Nickie launched her crime and anti-social behaviour plan for Westminster, part of Nickie's Plan to Make the Two Cities safer. Shaped by you, Nickie's Plan focuses on our priorities. Read about it on her website.

Nickie's Crime Plan

As part of Anti-social Behaviour Awareness Week, last week, Nickie joined local councillors for Vincent Square ward, Selina Short and David Harvey, and the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Case Officer, Rafi Hussain, for a door-knock to hear from local people on the Grosvenor Estate about their concerns.

Speaking after the visit, Nickie said,

"I'm here with Councillors Selina Short and David Harvey. We've been out with the local anti-social behaviour officer talking to residents about concerns they may have about crime and anti-social behaviour. And we've been delivering leaflets explaining to people what their rights are and how to get in touch if they want to make a complaint."

Councillor Selina Short commented,

"Well, it's been brilliant, because anti-social behaviour actually destroys people's lives, other people around them. And we do our best, David and I to get through, but having Nickie's help really adds that extra layer, and we're just going to keep fighting it."

Councillor David Harvey added,

"The clearest thing is that if you encounter an anti-social behaviour problem, it has to be reported because the police need a line of evidence. They can't do anything without that. But if you provide that evidence, even hearsay, what you're told is important. Then the council and the police can act and they will act if they've got that. So please telephone, email, get in touch with Nickie or your councillors."
