Lighting

As part of the Council’s annual Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme for the coming financial year 2019/20, your Councillors have successfully lobbied for street lighting to be upgraded at the following locations.

George Street - conversion of existing functional lanterns to LEDs
Harcourt Street - replacement of existing age expired with new LED standard units
Wythburn Place - upgrade existing equipment with LED conversions and installation of two wall mounted units

On Bryanston Place there has been an upgrade of existing equipment with LEDs and two lamp posts have been moved. Bryanston Square has been part of a City-wide LED pilot scheme where existing age expired equipment have been replaced with new LEDs.

The image above aims to show two different types of street lighting. The one on the right shows the old-style sodium light which gives a wider angle of lower intensity light. The left shows the more directional intense light produced by the LEDs.

Homelessness and rough sleeping is rising under Labour

Monday, 16 March, 2026
The numbers are stark. Homelessness and rough sleeping in Westminster are at record highs and is the highest of any council in the UK. The Labour-led council has allowed this crisis to get worse, with near year-on-year increases, without proper support to help people off the streets. This is the reality of life under this Labour-led Council: distracted by pet projects and headlines instead of helping vulnerable people who really need it.
