On Sunday, 5 October, we’ll be celebrating Silver Sunday - a special day dedicated to tackling loneliness and isolation among older people and celebrating the contribution they make to our community here in Westminster.
What started here in Westminster back in 2012, thanks to the vision of Christabel Flight - a former Conservative councillor and community activist - has grown into a nationwide movement that brings joy, connection, and friendship to tens of thousands of older people every year. Since 2024, it has been run by Age UK, with over 1,300 events across the country. We’re incredibly proud of its success.
How you can take part
Here are just a few of the wonderful events happening across Westminster this year:
- Silver Sunday Tea Dance: A classic favourite! Enjoy an afternoon of live music, dancing and delicious refreshments.
- Wellbeing afternoon at St Marylebone Parish Church: A relaxing and social gathering in beautiful surroundings.
- Film Festival hosted by Open Age: Catch a free screening with tea, coffee, and biscuits provided.
- Westminster Tea Dance at the Grosvenor House Hotel: A special event with live music and entertainment, a great opportunity to meet new friends.
