Westminster Conservatives have brought in a new range of measures to tackle over-running roadworks and long parking suspensions to free up parking for local residents, shoppers and commuters.
Parking suspensions are typically sought to carry out activities, from utility works to filming the latest blockbuster. A new tiered pricing structure will encourage shorter suspensions and more exact space reservation to release more parking spaces as soon as possible for residents and visitors to use. An increase in charges for the use of parking bays and single yellow lines and for utility works has recently been implemented, as has the requirement for ‘special permissions’ at locations where loading us usually not permitted.
It is hoped these measures will encourage a more considered approach to booking suspensions and all fees accrued will be reinvested back into local transport and infrastructure projects.
Councillor Heather Acton, Westminster’s Cabinet Member for Parking, said:
“We have acted upon the concerns of local residents to bring about a better and more efficient system for parking suspensions on our Westminster Streets. These new measures will hopefully foster a more considerate approach from companies in the future and return more spaces and much sooner for residents, shoppers and commuters”.
