Craven Road’s broken drain

After much prodding by Cllr Margot Bright, Thames Water have now started fixing the broken drain in Craven Road. For many weeks residents and local businesses have had to put up with a pump lorry, its pump making a lot of noise at intervals day and night, parked in the road.

­They reacted jubilantly when Thames Water staff arrived to start tackling the job, as our picture shows. The work, which is complex, should be finished by May 11th.

Craven Road and Craven Terrace suffered badly during last July’s floods, and some properties are still being put right. The council has no direct power over the water companies, but some of those affected have asked if we can do more to prevent ‘fatbergs’ building up in the drainage system, especially near restaurants. We are looking into this.

Hands Off Oxford Street!

On Tuesday, the Deputy Mayor of London announced that Sadiq Khan would be taking over Oxford Street early, with Transport for London designated as the traffic authority for the street. It was clear by the nature of the announcement that Westminster City Council were not prepared for this.
