We are all aware of the continuing difficult period that is being experienced by everyone across Westminster. I want to assure you that your local councillors will continue to provide whatever support or advice is needed in the coming weeks.
Many of you are contacting us, often with offers of help, for which we are very grateful. If you need our assistance, or have concerns about a vulnerable neighbour or relative, then do get in touch by e-mailing Westminster Connects or by phoning the new dedicated number 020 7641 1222 from 9am to 6pm, seven days a week.
Keeping in touch with local people
In response to the current emergency, Cllr Ian Rowley and his Conservative councillor colleagues have organised a programme of calling people to check how they are and let them know how they can get help if they need it. The team of councillors has made over 7,500 calls and spoken to over 2,500 households. Many people were pleased to receive a call from their councillors and to hear a friendly voice when they were unable to leave their homes. A number of residents were given the details of the Westminster Connects service, which was then able to provide support and help to the individuals who contacted the service.
Supporting Our Local Services
Your Conservative Council has created a map of local shops and businesses either physically open or offering delivery, takeaway or e-commerce, here.
The map is aimed at helping residents to shop local and to support businesses in their area as part of efforts to support the recovery of Westminster’s economy.
The Council is continuing to expand the list, in particular focusing on small shops and restaurants. You can have your business added by filling in the form here.
Community Contribution Fund
A new grant scheme has been launched to provide support to vulnerable people in Westminster, through the Community Contribution Fund. This fund receives income from those in the top council tax bands who choose to make a voluntary contribution on top of their regular council tax payment. The Fund is now in its third year and has raised over £1m of additional funding. This new scheme for voluntary and community organisations will provide support for the most vulnerable in Westminster and grants of up to £15,000 will be available.
The grants will support people who find themselves sleeping rough on our city's streets, work with young people to achieve their full potential and help lonely people feel less isolated.
