Local councillors Mo Elmi and Ed Pitt Ford are out with Westminster's community mobile recycling team in Pimlico North today, as the team sets up to help residents drop off bulky waste and other unwanted items. The initiative also educates residents about the importance of recycling, and provides food waste bags for those who want them. The councillors noted that the council receives payment for food waste collected, meaning that increased recycling could help keep council tax down.
Councillor Mo Elmi explains
"So today we're out with the community mobile recycling team. As you can see, they're setting up shop over there. So these initiatives done by the council to help residents drop off, say, bulky waste or any other kind of waste that they want to get rid of, and we also educate residents about the importance of recycling.
Councillor Ed Pitt Ford continues
"... you can also get your food waste bags here.
"And interestingly, the council actually get paid for the food waste that we produce.
"So the more we can collect for recycling, the lower our taxes can be."
