Support our petition to prevent Regents Park Gate closures and cycle superhighway congestion in NW8!
In spite of last year's Petition of 4,981 local residents objecting to the implementation of Cycle Superhighway 11 through St John's Wood and closures to the gates of Regents Park during rush hour, the Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan and Transport for London are still pressing ahead to see this through.
Please sign our new petition, so we can once again remind TfL, Camden Council and the Royal Parks that Abbey Road Ward Councillors DO NOT SUPPORT this project which can only cause worse traffic congestion and pollution. There are other ways to enhance cycling safety and air quality and CS11 and Regents Park Gate Closures are not the answer.
Westminster Councillors continue to work exhaustively behind the scenes to prevent this outcome but we need your support!
Local pubs' campaigns
After your Conservative Councillors got behind the local campaigns to prevent the loss of two of our iconic local pubs The Clifton and The Star, we were able to prevent their loss as 'Assets of Community Value' to luxury residential accommodation, by enforcing local planning policy alongside Localism Act legislation.
Earlier this year The Clifton re-opened but is now facing a Licence Review that we will help to challenge though ensuring compliance with their strict Licensing conditions. The Star re-opened as the Shisha establishment 'Drunch'- inappropriately in our view - given its position opposite Robinsfield Infant School. We are working with Westminster City Council to press Government for a change to Licensing Law to include Shisha smoking/the Prevention of Harm to Health as a Licensing Objective (as it is in Scotland) as well as to bringing it into line with cigarette smoking, which is dutiable and heavily restricted.
With the forthcoming proposed closure of The Salt House on Abbey Road, we will again represent the 1000+ local residents who don't want to lose this popular venue with a Petition to Full Council in January, but hope we may be able to persuade the new owners to keep this business going as a precious community asset. Please click here for further information and to sign the petition.
Wired Westminster:driving hi-speed fibre connectivity
Many residents' have complained of slow connectivity in their blocks and in their streets - William Court being one such typical example. Through our Wired Westminster initiative, your Conservative Council has pulled together with the private sector to ensure that 4000 of our social housing tenants are among the first to enjoy the opportunities brought by Ultrafast Broadband and that a further 6000 Westminster properties will have this service in 2018.
We want this service to be rolled out to everyone across St John's Wood, so please let us know if this is something Wired Westminster can help with! We will shortly be able to provide all our residents' with a comprehensive map to demonstrate provider options. Please email us if you would like to find out more!
