5 Kingdom Street - planning application rejected

5 Kingdom Street

As we have previously advised, we have been campaigning against the proposal to erect a 19-storey office building at this site in Paddington Basin, currently the location of Pergola Paddington.

It would be located in a prominent position and be very visible from across the Browning Pool and from Blomfield Road and Warrington Crescent. We argued that the building was too large, in terms of both height and bulk. It was designed to be eye-catching, but would achieve this in a negative way when viewed from the numerous heritage buildings in our area.

All three Little Venice councillors opposed this planning application and both Cllrs Caplan and Green spoke against the building at the planning meeting on 7 January. The planning committee agreed with us and the application was rejected.

We await to see what British Land will do next. We can assure local people that we remain vigilant and will continue to oppose unacceptable developments that affect the Little Venice area.
