Pedicabs

In joint action involving the Council’s City Inspectors, the Home Office and the Police, a coordinated operation was carried out just before Christmas at four locations - Oxford Street, Bond Street, Regent Street and Covent Garden.

The main focus was to target the illegal use of pedicabs, especially those using batteries above the legal limit. This joint operation followed a similar operation in November, which has seen vehicles removed under road traffic legislation and also the issuing of Community Protection Notices. In all, 30 pedicabs were removed in December. These activities follow the Council’s lobbying for the Police to take a tougher stance against pedicabs on our streets.

Councillor Mark Shearer says "We are delighted to see the Council officers and Police working together to start to control the use of pedicabs. Pedicabs have become a worrying addition to the streets of London, with many causing a nuisance through their loud music and also dangerous driving. These operations show the Council’s clear intention to crack down on those behaving illegally."
