Leader of Westminster Conservatives, Cllr Paul Swaddle OBE, is demanding urgent answers after concerns were raised with him by residents that Westminster City Council has purchased a block of flats in Kew and eviction notices have since been served on the majority of existing tenants, including elderly and vulnerable people who have lived there for many years, giving them just two months to leave.
Cllr Swaddle said:
"There is no justification for throwing people, including elderly and vulnerable residents, out of their homes at two months' notice. These are residents who may have limited mobility and limited ability to simply uproot and start again.
Labour in Westminster, Sadiq Khan and the Labour Government all campaign loudly against no fault evictions. To apparently facilitate exactly this for some of Westminster's most vulnerable residents is an act of staggering hypocrisy.
I am demanding Westminster Labour explain immediately what assessment was made of the impact on these residents and what meaningful support is being offered to them. These people deserve answers now."
Westminster Conservatives will always stand on the side of local people and will not stay silent while Same Old Labour treated them with such contempt.
