A Greener Westminster

A greener Westminster

We created the UK's largest on-street EV charging network, introduced the first fully electric refuse fleet and invested over £1 million in CCTV for cleaner, safer streets. We will build on that record with practical environmental action.

We will expand EV infrastructure sensibly, taking a block-by-block approach, champion air quality improvements, target engine idling enforcement and ensure new development meets high sustainability standards while being pragmatic about heritage constraints.

Air Quality

We will aspire to meet World Health Organisation targets for air quality by 2040. This means a determined focus on reducing fossil fuels being burnt in the city. We will incentivise electric vehicles through lower parking charges and more charging infrastructure, encourage filtration systems in commercial kitchens, help residents explore options for electric heating including air source heat pumps, and provide electricity to street market stalls to replace polluting gas and charcoal cooking. We will reinvigorate our previously successful #DontBeIdle campaign that has faltered under Labour.

Carbon Neutrality

Labour set targets for the Council to be carbon neutral by 2030 and the city by 2040 but are far from meeting them. We will ensure the targets are correctly interpreted, fully cost the 2030 target, source the funding required and set annual carbon-reduction milestones. We will focus on making the Council a zero-emission operation and get our own house in order before telling others what to do. Reducing fossil fuel use delivers cleaner air and lower emissions together.

Trees and Green Spaces

We will carry out a comprehensive audit of all trees in Westminster and add trees or replant where necessary to preserve the canopy, improve air quality and enhance our streets. We will protect community open space across the City.

Our pledge: Expand EV charging. WHO air quality targets by 2040. Modernise the PDHU. A zero-emission Council. Practical action.

Safe Streets. Clean City. Real Action.

Your vote on 7 May is the difference between a Labour Council that takes you for granted, or a Conservative Council that will deliver value for money, safe streets and a clean city.

Only the Conservatives can beat Labour in Westminster.

Vote Conservative on Thursday, 7 May.
