Conservatives deliver tougher powers on fly-tippers

Conservatives have forced a Labour Government u-turn on fly-tipping.

After Conservatives tabled amendments to the Government's Crime and Policing Bill calling for harsher punishments, Labour has backed down and agreed to implement measures to put points on the licences of fly-tippers and seize their vehicles.

Cllr Paul Swaddle OBE, Leader of Westminster Conservatives, said:

"Fly-tippers are turning our streets and public spaces into dumping grounds. Conservatives pushed for tougher powers and the Labour Government has been forced to listen. These new measures will make a real difference.

In Westminster, a Conservative council elected on 7 May will use every power available to crack down on fly-tipping, littering and waste offences. Our Clean City Plan will deliver the tougher enforcement Westminster deserves. Offenders will be held to account."

Westminster Conservatives are committed to delivering a Clean City as part of their Plan for Westminster, which sets out a zero tolerance approach to graffiti, reliable waste collection and serious enforcement on those who harm our public spaces.
