Sadiq Khan has failed to stop fare evasion across the Tube network and Labour led Westminster has failed to speak up for the local people left paying the price through rising fares.
We have all seen it: people jumping barriers or pushing through gates with no enforcement and no consequences.
Any serious Mayor would treat this as a basic test of competence. If you do not enforce the rules, you invite more lawbreaking and undermine respect for the system. Yet Labour has shown neither competence nor grip, and enforcement is nowhere to be seen.
Fare evasion is not a victimless act. It drains revenue from the transport network and leaves honest passengers footing the bill.
And while fare dodgers roam free, law-abiding residents in Westminster are facing an above-inflation fare hike of 5.8 per cent to cover the cost.
Labour’s approach in Westminster is no different. Absent leadership is content to oversee drifting decline rather than restore safety and pride to our streets. The result is a city where rule breaking becomes normalised.
This is the Same Old Labour story: weak enforcement, higher costs for residents and a rudderless administration in office but not in power.
Westminster deserves leadership that stands-up for residents and demands basic standards from the Council, Sadiq Khan and TfL. Not Labour’s selective talk of fairness that only appears when it suits them.
Westminster Conservatives demand proper enforcement across the network, tough action against repeat fare dodgers, and clear accountability from the Mayor and TfL.
Local people in Westminster deserve safe streets, a clean city and real action. Not a Labour council that sits on its hands while crime and disorder spread.
Westminster Conservatives will always stand up for residents and call out failure at City Hall. We will push for enforcement that works and a city where rules are upheld.
Back our call for real action on fare evasion and accountability:
