Protecting our Neighbourhood, a call for Westminster Council Action
Vincent Square Conservative Action Team Update - From Councillors Selina Short and David Harvey
Many of you have expressed significant concerns about anti-social behaviour in our area. Your messages highlight worries about drug dealing, street violence, and various criminal activities, both minor and serious. In response, our small local police team has become the most active, with the highest arrest rate anywhere in Westminster.
However, despite promises last year, we see a lack of engagement from the Labour-led Council. Working alongside third-sector organisations and residents' associations, we are pressing Council leadership to engage with the community and outline their plans to support police and third sector efforts. An equal concern, alongside your safety and peace and quiet is the welfare of vulnerable individuals on our streets, who need assistance and encouragement off the streets.
Petition for Action
We want to encourage the Council to get involved. Please support our petition, which states:
We urge Westminster City Council to restore safety to Vincent Square. Despite promises of a new strategy made at last year's public meeting for concerned residents, no concrete action has followed. Drug dealing, petty crime, and issues related to the street population and rough sleeping continue to endanger everyone—including vulnerable street dwellers who are often the first victims of violence.
We demand that the Council demonstrate the community leadership it promised by:
1. Implementing a resourced action plan with measurable targets
2. Facilitating collaboration between all stakeholders: police, social services, charities, and residents.
Please sign our petition, which we will present to the Council.
